Utility Person / Utility Worker – Transit Operations

Job Summary
The Utility Person is responsible for supporting daily transit fleet operations by cleaning, fueling, servicing, and maintaining vehicles to ensure they are safe, clean, and ready for service. This position assists the maintenance and operations departments with yard organization and general support duties.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Fuel, wash, clean, and detail company vehicles daily.
  • Check fluid levels including oil, coolant, transmission fluid, and windshield washer fluid.
  • Perform basic preventive maintenance support.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the maintenance yard and service area.
  • Move vehicles safely throughout the yard and parking areas.
  • Conduct basic vehicle inspections and report defects or damage.
  • Assist mechanics with shop cleanup and minor repairs.
  • Ensure all safety procedures and company policies are followed.
  • Remove trash and sanitize vehicle interiors.
  • Assist with snow removal or emergency yard operations when necessary.
  • Maintain accurate service and fueling records.

Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • CDL preferred but not required.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Basic mechanical knowledge preferred.
  • Reliable attendance and punctuality required.

Physical Requirements:
  • Standing, bending, lifting, and walking for extended periods.
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
